Mumbai Indians (MI) won their 5th IPL title in 13 seasons and are arguably the most consistent franchise of IPL. One reason that they achieved success on a consistent basis is because of the strong Indian core they have built. Indian players, both capped and uncapped, have contributed tremendously to the success of this franchise.
In the upcoming IPL auction, Mumbai Indians could seek to hire backup players, who could be some value buys in the next season. Here we list 4 players MI might be on the lookout for in the IPL 2021 auction:
1. Varun Chakravarthy
KKR’s bowling find might be one MI could look to hire next season. The mystery leg spinner had his best season in a KKR shirt so far. Picking up 17 wickets in just 13 games, Chakravarthy was arguably one of KKR’s standout bowlers this season. He was also the only bowler this season to pick up 5 wickets in a single match.
Owing to his heroics with the bowl, Chakhavarthy earned his maiden national call-up for the Indian team. However, unfortunately, he got injured and hence didn’t travel with the squad.
2. Rahul Tewatia
Rahul Tewatia received much fame after he smashed Sheldon Cottrell for 5 sixes in a single over. This was Tewatia’s maiden IPL season and has quickly become the talk of the town after some explosive batting displays this season.
Even though MI has a star-studded middle-order lineup, Tewatia could be used as a backup for the underperforming Krunal Pandya. The RR batsman amassed 255 runs in just 14 games with a strike rate of 139.34 this season. He is also lethal with the ball, picking up a total of 10 wickets this season.
3. Kartik Tyagi
Kartik Tyagi showed promising signs in IPL 2020, picking up 9 wickets in 10 games. This was Tyagi’s maiden IPL season, and he did not disappoint. Tyagi made life difficult for some of the league’s best batsmen. With such huge potential, MI might look to recruit the services of this 20-year old bowler.
4. Mahipal Lomror
This 21-year-old RR batsman didn’t get much game time this season. Lomror only played 3 games this season, hitting 59 runs in total. However, Lomror is a young lad, and with proper guidance and management, could be one of IPL’s rising stars. If MI ever looked to recruit a batsman for the future, they would surely opt for Lomror.
