Ravindra Jadeja

After India’s defeat in the World Test Championship final, there has been a lot of criticism for selecting Ravindra Jadeja in the playing XI. Thereby, India would make some changes ahead of the Test series against England. Jadeja’s place in the playing XI is in doubt after seam bowlers proved to be more successful in the English condition. The Indian team would probably select an extra all-rounder seam player or a specialist batsman in place of Jadeja.

But Jadeja has proved himself to be a match-winner with both the bat and the ball in every condition. Check 4 reasons why Jadeja should be part of the playing XI:

Good all-rounder

In Test matches, Jadeja has been a good wicket-taker and a consistent lower-order batsman for India. The majority of his success with the ball has been in India condition. But over the past few years, he has improved his overseas performance.

During the recent overseas Test series, Jadeja had performed impressively with the bat to help India win. So his addition to the team would strengthen the batting as well as bowling lineup.

Partnership Breaker

Ravindra Jadeja is a consistent bowler who hardly gives any loose deliveries to hit. So, he can restrict batsmen from scoring enough runs and build up the pressure. It usually forces the batsmen to take unnecessary risks and give away wickets. He is mainly successful at breaking important partnerships that help India get back into the game.

Effective against right-handed players

Jadeja has the uncanny ability to bowl out right-handed batsmen or lbw them easily. He has been a difficult bowler to handle for right-handed batsmen as he usually bowls wicket to wicket and does not spin much. Thereby, if any batsman misses the delivery or gets hit on the pad, they usually lose their wicket.

Ability to pick up the bottom players in the batting lineup

The bowling style of Jadeja has made him a successful bowler against tailenders. He usually bowl out or lbw the players. English tailenders have always been good against Indian bowlers so the presence of Jadeja can increase the bowling strength of India.

The Indian bowling unit can then perform better against English tailenders.
