On 10 November 2022, team India took on England in Adelaide in the semi-final of the 20-20 World Cup. Pakistan already qualified for the final of the World Cup after defeating the Kiwis in the semi-final. So, fans were hoping to see another India vs Pakistan clash at the MCG on 13 November.

But, the Men in Blue failed to win as England thrashed them down. After that loss, fans were in shock along with the players. Some players did well in the tournament. But, there were some players who failed to deliver at the crucial stage. So, some players might look to hang up their boots for India in T20Is in the coming days.

Here are five players of India who are most like to take retirement from T20Is

1. Rohit Sharma

The current Indian skipper had a disastrous tournament with the bat during the ongoing 20-20 World Cup. Rohit Sharma scored only 116 runs in six matches of the World Cup. He managed only one fifty-plus score in the tournament against the Netherlands. In the semi-final against England, Rohit batted at a strike rate of 96.42.

He took 28 balls to score only 27 runs, including four boundaries. So, fans were not happy with such a performance from the experienced batter. So, the veteran batter might look to take retirement from this shortest format of the game for India. Even, his fitness issues have been a drawback in his career. So, keeping the other two formats in mind, Rohit Sharma might look to retire from T20Is.

2. Dinesh Karthik

This veteran wicketkeeper made a comeback into the national team for his excellent show with the bat in the Indian T20 League. For the Bangalore franchise, Dinesh Karthik came up with some crucial contributions while batting down the order. So, everyone was expecting Karthik can fulfill the role of a finisher in this World Cup.

But, he failed miserably. Dinesh Karthik scored only 14 runs in three innings of the World Cup. With the gloves, he managed to take only four catches. Even, team India chose Rishabh Pant over him against Zimbabwe and England. So, based on his age and recent performances, it is looking like Karthik might look to retire from T20Is.

3. Ravichandran Ashwin

All Indian fans were in shock when Ravichandran Ashwin made the final squad of India for the 20-20 World Cup 2022. Things became more shocking when team India went with the veteran spinner over Yuzvendra Chahal. Speaking about his performances, Ashwin scored 21 runs in four innings of the World Cup.

With the ball, he managed to take six wickets. Even, in the semi-final against England, Ashwin conceded 27 runs but failed to take a single wicket. So, fans were absolutely livid with such a performance from an experienced player. Therefore, Ashwin might have played his last T20I game for India.

4. Mohammed Shami

This pacer was not in contention to get the ticket for this 20-20 World Cup. After tha last 20-20 World Cup in 2021, he did not play a single T20I for India. Jasprit Bumrah got injured and in his place of him, selectors went with Mohammed Shami. However, he impressed everyone with his form during the warm-up match against the Aussies.

In the World Cup, he played all six games and took only six wickets. Against England in the semi-final, Shami conceded 39 runs but failed to grab a single wicket. So, the pacer failed to deliver in the crunch situation for his team. Therefore, Shami might look to retire from this form of the game to give longevity to other formats in his career.

5. Bhuvneshwar Kumar

After the confirmation of Jasprit Bumrah’s absence, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the lone experience campaigner in the available bowling lineup. Heading to the World Cup, he was suffering from bad form with the ball. However, he managed to take some wickets in the ongoing World Cup.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar took only five wickets in six matches of the World Cup for India. He bowled economically but failed to take wickets in regular intervals. Against England, he conceded 25 runs but failed to take any wickets. So, this veteran bowler is most likely to take retirement from T20Is.
