In a remarkable turnaround, India came from behind in the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series to beat Australia by 6 wickets within three days of play and establish an unassailable 2-0 lead in the four-Test series. In an entertaining Test, a few highlighting moments created quite a buzz among the fans. Here are the top five moments from the second BGT Test played in the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

5. Cheteshwar Pujara reaches landmark 100th Test

The first memorable moment of the game was even before the action began as Cheteshwar Pujara became the 13th Indian to reach the milestone 100th Test. Pujara, who debuted for India in Tests against Australia in 2010, achieved the 100th career Test for India landmark against the same opposition in the second Test match of the BGT 2023.

As such, the Indian players did their part, giving the solid defensive batter a guard of honour while coming out to the field in the first session of the ongoing Test in Delhi. He has a tally of 7021 Test runs from 169 innings accounting for an average of 44.15 with a highest score of 206*. He has 34 fifties and 19 centuries to his credit in the red-ball game.

4. Matt Renshaw replaces David Warner as concussion substitute

India speedster Mohammed Siraj struck David Warner on the helmet at the end of the 10th over, having previously taken a painful blow on the left elbow in the eighth over. Both times he was struck as he tried to pull a Siraj bouncer but was beaten for pace. Warner had to be subbed off after being declared concussed by the Australian medical staff.

Later reports revealed that Warner had also sustained a hairline fracture in his elbow; the Australia batter copped with multiple blows in his innings. Matt Renshaw was then brought out as his concussion substitute while Warner could not play any further part in the game.

3. Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin come up big with the bat

After restricting Australia to 263, India looked to be in trouble struggling at 139-7 at a point in the game. However, India’s star allrounders, Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin, came up with an innings-rescuing partnership of 114 runs for the eighth wicket that helped India close the gap between Australia’s first-innings score.

Axar Patel scored 74 off 115, while Ashwin got 37 off 71 before Australia skipper Pat Cummins dismissed him, breaking the 114-run partnership. Riding on the same, India got to 262, conceding a first-innings lead of just one run.

2. Ravindra Jadeja rattles the Aussie batting line-up picking up 7

Ravindra Jadeja won back-to-back ‘man of the match’ awards, dropping two sensational performances in the first and second BGT Test. The first Test was more of an all-around show as the man from Gujarat picked up 7 wickets within two innings, including a five-wicket haul in the first innings and a crucial 70 off 185, helping India get to a first-innings score of 400.

In the second Test, he took a cumulative 10 wickets in the game, three in the first innings and a sensational 7-wicket haul in the second innings as Australia collapsed from 64-1 to 113 all out. Interestingly, the other three wickets went to his spin twin Ravichandran Ashwin.

1. Virat Kohli’s controversial dismissal in the first innings

Virat Kohli has been inconsistent with his chances in the red-ball game; he looked surprisingly flawless in the first innings of the 2nd BGT Test with a knock of 44 off 84 before getting dismissed in a controversial lbw decision. The on-field decision was out, and Kohli did not hesitate to go upstairs for a review.

However, the on-field call and the 3rd umpire collectively decided that the ball hit the pad first despite any clear evidence of the same. The ball seemed to have hit the bat and pad simultaneously. That being said, his first innings knock of 44 was promising enough for fans to believe in a triple-digit score for the 34-year-old coming soon. The last time he scored a test ton was back in 2019.
