KXIP has had quite a dismal IPL run since the inception of the league. The Punjab franchise failed to win a single IPL trophy to date. Even with players such as Chris Gayle, KL Rahul and Ravichandran Ashwin, KXIP failed to impress in 2020. Silly mistakes and some strange decision making led to the downfall of the team yet again. Here is a list of 5 players that KXIP might release ahead of the auction:
5. Hardus Viljoen
KXIP acquired the services of Hardus Viljoen back in the 2019 IPL auction. Despite Viljoen’s availability in IPL 2020, he did not play a single match in the entire season. In 2019, Viljoen managed only 6 games under his belt, picking 7 wickets with a poor economy of 9.65. With several overseas players in the squad, Viljoen never made it through the cut. With the 2021 IPL auction coming, KXIP might look for some other foreign player to replace Viljoen.
4. Karun Nair
KXIP acquired Karun Nair back in 2018 at a whopping 5.6 crore. After a fair display in IPL 2018, Nair’s IPL career plummeted. IN IPL 2019, Nair played only 1 game for the Punjab franchise. In the 2020 edition, Nair was part of only 4 games.
3. Chris Jordan
One of England’s best T20I players, Chris Jordan failed to impress in the 2020 edition of the IPL. Playing just nine games this season, Jordan managed to pick up only 9 wickets, with a dismal bowling economy of 9.65.
2. Sheldon Cottrell
KXIP acquired the West Indian cricketer for a whopping 8.5 crore. However, Cottrell failed to live up to expectations. West Indies’s highest wicket-taker in the 2019 World Cup, Cottrell seemed to be nowhere near his best in IPL 2020. Cottrell had a dismal IPL 2020 outing, picking only 6 wickets from 6 games.
1. Glenn Maxwell
Last on the list is Aussie all-rounder Glenn Maxwell. Just 108 runs in 13 games clearly highlights how flagrant Maxwell was in IPL 2020. Moreover, he could not even impress with the ball, picking just 3 wickets in total. Acquired at a whopping amount of around 11 cr, Maxwell was nowhere to be seen this season. If Maxwell does not show any signs of improvement, he might see the exit door next season.
