With the IPL 2021 auction done and dusted, IPL franchises will now focus on IPL 2021. Every franchise will look to utilise their signings to the utmost potential. However, there is a possibility that some signings might falter under pressure to justify their hefty price tags. That said, here is a list of 5 players who might disappoint in IPL 2021:

Piyush Chawla

Chawla is one of the highest wicket-takers in IPL history. However, Chawla’s performance has declined since IPL 2012. Despite that, MI bought Chawla in the IPL auction for 2.4 cr in the IPL 2021 auction. In IPL 2020, Piyush Chawla scalped just 6 wickets in 7 games, with an expensive economy of 9.99. With such a poor outing in IPL 2020, Chawla might not deliver as expected for MI.

Tom Curran

The England cricketer was roped in by DC at a whopping 5.25 cr in the IPL 2021 auction. However, Curran did not have the best outing with RR in IPL 2020. In just 5 matches, Curran leaked 208 runs at an expensive economy of 11.08 in IPL 2020. Consequently, there is a possibility that Curran might fail to justify his price tag in IPL 2021.

Kedar Jadhav

Kedhar Jadhav was roped in by SRH in the IPL 2021 auction at a price of 2 cr. Jadhav was clearly one of CSK’s underperforming players in IPL 2020. In 8 matches, Jadhav scored 62 runs with a dismal strike rate of 99.93. SRH does not have the best finishers in the league. Jadhav might just add to SRH’s misery in the IPL this season.

Glenn Maxwell

Maxwell was arguably one of the costliest purchases in the IPL 2021 auction. The Australian cricketer was sold to RCB at a whopping 14.25 cr. However, Maxwell has never been quite prolific and consistent in his IPL career. In IPL 2020, Maxwell managed to amass only 108 runs in 13 games without registering a single six in the season. RCB’s overdependence on Maxwell might just cost them another IPL trophy this year.

Pawan Negi

Pawan Negi does not have the brightest IPL careers. In 50 IPL matches, Negi managed to score only 365 runs and 34 wickets. Despite that, Negi has been part of the IPL since 2012. The 28-year-old was acquired by KKR for 50 lakhs in the IPL 2021 auction. With such dismal stats, Negi might again perform below expectations in IPL 2021.
