The RR side was dealt another blow after Liam Livingstone announced his departure from IPL 2021. Livingstone stated bubble fatigue as the reason why he flew back to England. With Livingstone out, RR need to find another solid overseas backup option to replace the English cricketer. That said, here are 5 players who could replace Liam Livingstone in the RR squad this season:
Aaron Finch
Jos Buttler started his IPL 2021 campaign batting in the middle order for RR. However, Buttler now operates as an opener for RR this season. David Miller has been quite inconsistent in the middle order. Hence, there is a possibility for Buttler to bat in the middle order again, in place of Miller. If that happens, Aaron Finch could be Buttler’s likely replacement as an opener. Finch could provide the explosiveness that RR are missing this season.
Marnus Labuschagne
Labuschagne could be a fruitful replacement for Liam Livingstone in the RR squad this season. Not only will Labuschagne provide stability to the RR batting order, but he can also bowl part time as a leg spinner. If RR sticks with Buttler as an opener, Labuschagne could bat in the middle order for RR this season.
Devon Conway
At no 3 in this list is New Zealand cricketer Devon Conway. Conway garnered attention after a superb outing in the recently contested Trans-Tasman series. The 29-year-old has played a total of 14 T20Is for New Zealand. Conway’s terrific strike rate of 151.12 in the T20I format highlights his hard-hitting ability. The RR middle order has looked shaky in the IPL 2021 so far. With Devon Conway in the side, that issue could be well and truly resolved.
Wanindu Hasaranga
Another potential replacement for Liam Livingstone in the RR squad could be Wanindu Hasaranga. In the 1st season of Lanka Premier League, Hasaranga scalped a total of 17 wickets. Hasaranga was also fantastic in the limited overs series against West Indies. In 3 matches against WI, the 23-year-old picked 8 wickets in just 3 matches. Hasaranga could be an invaluable asset in the RR side, adding variety and depth in RR’s bowling order.
Adil Rashid
At no 5 in this list is English cricketer Adil Rashid. It was quite surprising to see a bowler of his calibre go unsold in the IPL 2021 auction. In 57 T20Is, Rashid has scalped a total of 55 wickets. Rashid has plenty of experience in the shortest version of the game. With Rashid’s experience, RR could see a change in fortune in the IPL this year.
