5 players who could win the orange cap for the 1st time in the IPL

Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul was the most recent orange cap winner. The orange cap is given to the player with the most runs in a single IPL season. The orange cap has had a glorious history, awarded to great players such as Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, David Warner, and many more. Here is a list of 5 players who could win their maiden orange cap in IPL 2021:

5. Suryakumar Yadav (MI)

At no 5 is Mumbai’s beloved Suryakumar Yadav. Yadav is at the zenith of his cricketing career, having recently made his debut for India. Yadav had a fantastic season with Mumbai in IPL 2020. In 16 matches, Yadav amassed a total of 480 runs in total. A superb player of spin, Yadav is certainly an asset for the 5-time champions. The 30-year-old will look to exploit bowlers this season and might also contend for the orange cap. 

4. Devdutt Padikkal (RCB)

Latest reports have hinted that Devdutt Padikkal has completely recovered after testing positive for COVID-19. Hence, Padikkal will be fit for the opening match against 5-time champions Mumbai Indians. The 20-year-old was RCB’s highest run-getter in IPL 2020. Padikkal will look to continue his red hot form into the IPL 2021 after a superb outing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. 

3. Rishabh Pant (DC)

Another contender for the orange cap in IPL 2021 is DC captain Rishabh Pant. After a heroic outing against Australia in the Test series, Pant is the talk of the town. Long considered the heir of MS Dhoni, Pant finally has a chance to prove himself in the captaincy department. Easily one of India’s explosive batsmen currently, Pant could definitely vie for the orange cap. 

2. Jonny Bairstow (SRH)

Jonny Bairstow was recently awarded the Man of the Series after a superb outing against India in the limited overs series. The England batsman is another player at the peak of his game. Alongside SRH captain David Warner, Bairstow could dismantle any bowling lineup on his day. Bairstow is expected to score plenty of runs and also vie for the orange cap this season. 

1. Mayank Agarwal (PBKS)

At no 1 on this list is Indian cricketer Mayank Agarwal. Agarwal is clearly the most important batsman in the PBKS lineup after KL Rahul. Agarwal had a blistering run in IPL 2020. In 11 games, Agarwal scored 424 runs. However, the injury got the better of Agarwal and he opted out of IPL 2020 midway. A lot is expected from Agarwal in IPL 2021. Being in sublime form in the IPL, Agarwal is the most likely to win the orange cap for the maiden time in his IPL career.
