The IPL has been a breeding ground for rising talent, nurturing and polishing them to play their best. Because of this, we have been treated to some exceptional bowling and batting performances. However, some players weren’t able to deliver their best.

Here is a list of 5 such  players who delivered well below expectations in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020):

5. Dinesh Karthik

The highly-rated wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik has been consistently delivering for KKR since the past two seasons. However, he failed to live up to the hype he created this season, managing to rack up only 169 runs. With an average of just 14,08, Karthik struggled with the bat.

4. Andre Russell

Another KKR player, Andre Russell, is known widely for how hard he hits the ball. However, this season was one to forget as the West Indian performed below par. He managed to bag only 117 runs, not even a fourth of what he bagged last season. He also displayed a mediocre bowling performance, thereby leaving all KKR fans crestfallen as his team failed to make it to the qualifiers.

3. Dale Steyn

The veteran South African bowler was also another disappointment this season. Everyone had expected something special from him, given his price of 2 Crore. However, Steyn managed to bag only 1 wicket the entire season, which is way below his standards. Moreover, an economy of over 11 clearly depicts how awful Steyn has been this season.

2. Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell was bought by KXIP at a whopping 10.75 Crore. However, the Australian all-rounder performed nowhere near his price tag. Maxwell failed to live up to the hype, failing to hit a single six in 106 balls! His highest score the whole season was only 32 off 24 balls. Maxwell’s inability to spark to life and deliver for the team resulted in KXIP not even making it to the Knock-out stage.

1. Mahendra Singh Dhoni

Everyone’s eyes were on Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the former Indian captain after he announced his retirement from international cricket. People expected to see the best of him after 14 months, but it turned out to be his worst season ever. The CSK captain managed to bag only one fifty in the IPL 2020, hitting a meager 200 runs.

MS Dhoni also failed to lead his side to the playoffs for the first time in IPL history. He, however, showed some glimpses of the old Dhoni by dismissing 16 players behind the wickets.
