IPL 2021

IPL 2021 had to be suspended midway owing to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the IPL 2021 bio-bubble. Few veteran players were planning to announce their retirement after IPL 2021. However, the midway suspension of IPL 2021 led to those players delaying their retirement. That said, here are 5 players who delayed their retirement due to the suspension of IPL 2021:

Harbhajan Singh

KKR brought in veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh in the IPL 2021 auction. However, Harbhajan failed to make a significant impact in the IPL this year. In 3 matches in IPL 2021, Harbhajan failed to scalp a single wicket for KKR. The 40-year-old was set to retire at the end of the IPL this season. However, IPL 2021 got indefinitely suspended midway. Hence, Harbhajan Singh’s retirement from the IPL has been postponed as well.

Dan Christian

Dan Christian is arguably one of the most experienced all-rounders in the T20 league format. The Australian was roped in by RCB in the IPL 2021 auction. However, Christian failed to impress in the IPL this season. In 3 matches in IPL 2021, Christian scored only 3 runs with the bat and did not pick a single wicket with the ball. Christian was set to retire after IPL 2021. However, his retirement got postponed after the suspension of IPL 2021.

Amit Mishra

Amit Mishra is another veteran player who was set to retire after the completion of IPL 2021. The 38-year-old is way past his prime and looked highly unlikely to continue playing in the IPL after this season. However, after the suspension of IPL 2021, there is a strong chance that Mishra might play his final IPL season next year.

Imran Tahir

The 42-year-old boasts a phenomenal record in the IPL. In his IPL career, Tahir has scalped a total of 82 wickets. With age not in Tahir’s favor, there was a strong chance that Imran Tahir could announce his retirement from the IPL this year. However, with the suspension of IPL 2021, Tahir had to postpone his retirement. There is a possibility that Tahir could play his final season in the IPL next year.

MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni looked nowhere near his best in the IPL this season. In 7 matches in IPL 2021, Dhoni managed to score only 37 runs in total. Dhoni is way past his prime and looked set to retire from the IPL this year. However, the veteran had to postpone his retirement owing to the midway suspension of IPL 2021. It is highly likely that IPL 2022 could be Dhoni’s final season in the IPL.
