While the T20 format is considered a batsman’s game, bowlers have equally impressed fans worldwide. If we specifically talk about the IPL, we have seen spinners who instill fear in the heart of opposition batsmen. With the IPL to start April 9, here are 5 spinners to keep an eye on in IPL 2021:
Rashid Khan
The world no 2 T20I bowlers will arguably be one of the spinners to watch out for in IPL 2021. Khan has featured in several T20 Leagues throughout the world. Hence, the Afghanistan bowler will certainly bring a ton of experience to the SRH side. Rashid Khan had a fantastic outing with SRH in IPL 2020. In 16 matches, Khan scalped 20 wickets for the Hyderabad franchise. An economy of just 5.37 clearly highlights how pivotal Khan is to the SRH side.
Varun Chakravarthy
After an impressive outing with KKR in IPL 2020, Varun Chakravarthy received his maiden national call-up. However, due to fitness issues, he was unable to make it to the Indian squad. In IPL 2020, the 29-year-old picked up 17 wickets for KKR in just 13 matches. A brilliant bowling strike rate of 18.33 shows why Chakravarthy is such a lethal weapon for the Kolkata franchise. The spinner will be keen to put in another successful outing with KKR this season in the IPL.
Shreyas Gopal
The 27-year-old had a fine outing with RR in IPL 2019. In 14 wickets, Gopal picked up 20 wickets for the Rajasthan franchise. However, IPL 2020 saw a downfall in Gopal’s performance. In 14 games, Gopal managed to bag only 10 wickets in the entire season. Moreover, his economy of 8.54 was also on the higher side in IPL 2020. Gopal will be eager to resurrect his lost form in the IPL this season.
Yuzvendra Chahal
IPL 2021 could be the decider for Yuzvendra Chahal’s international career. Chahal endured a dismal outing with India in the international format recently. The spin bowler was battered by Australia in the limited-overs series. Prior to that, Chahal’s performance did not improve. In the limited-overs series against England, he was hammered by English batsmen. However, in the IPL, things seemed different for Chahal. In IPL 2020, Chahal picked up 21 wickets in just 15 matches with a solid economy of 7.08. The Bengaluru franchise will expect Chahal to turn it up in IPL 2021.
Ravi Bishnoi
Bishnoi was fantastic in the U19 World Cup in 2020. The youngster finished the tournament as the highest wicket-taker with 17 wickets. In his first season in IPL, Bishnoi picked up 12 wickets for the Punjab franchise. This year, the 20-year-old is expected to bag better bowling figures for Punjab Kings in the IPL.
