The International cricket series has resumed in the world, and the Indian team has even traveled to Australia for participating in a full-length series. But, the domestic season of India organized by the BCCI is to kick-start yet. The BCCI has not yet confirmed the dates of high-profile tournaments such as the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) and Ranji Trophy.
The SMAT, a major domestic T20 tournament in India, is supposed to commence on 20 December. Although, the cricket board has still not finalized the venues. In the latest update, the top six domestic teams have asked the BCCI to move the tournament to January. The states are Karnataka, Punjab, Saurashtra, Odisha, Kerala, and Meghalaya. The reason for the request is that they will have less time to prepare for the tournament.
The BCCI had earlier given the teams four options. They asked the teams to select the domestic tournaments they wish to participate in with four alternatives.
Before conducting the IPL auction, BCCI wishes to conduct the SMAT
A month ago, the BCCI has conducted the IPL 2020 in the UAE seamlessly and efficiently as cricket resumed in the period of the pandemic. The governing body went through a challenging job by keeping hundreds of players and staff in the bio-bubble for six weeks. They did not find any Covid-19 protocols breach, once the tournament started.
Sourav Ganguly, the President of the BCCI, had hinted that they were preparing for the next IPL season by April soon after the completion of the IPL 2020. He had added further that they were preparing to arrange it in India. There are also major speculations of two new teams to be added to the next edition.
Hence, with the IPL auction scheduled to take place by the end of January; the BCCI wishes the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy to begin as soon as possible.
