As of now, it is completely up to the BCCI to decide the captain of the Indian Team. However, if this power is passed on to the fans, it is clear who should lead the team. The Indian team has lost the ODI series and no one likes India’s current situation. Both the fans and cricket pundits have expressed their dismay regarding India’s current performance. Because of this, several questions are being raised regarding Kohli’s captaincy.

The team marshaled by Kohli looked clueless and perplexed throughout the first 2 ODI matches. The bowling department was nothing but shambolic.  Australia easily managed to post a total of 350+ in the first 2 ODIS. To this, India couldn't muster to score a total of 350+ even once. Eventually, this has called for the removal of Kohli from the role of captain of the Indian side.

Fans clearly favor Rohit over Kohli for captaincy

As per a poll, Rohit Sharma is clearly vouched for to take this responsibility from Virat Kohli. The poll was conducted for a day. With around 67652 votes in total, the results are truly astounding. Rohit Sharma garnered 77.82% of total votes. This totals to around 55282 fans in favor of Sharma to become the captain. In stark contrast, Kohli received only 15370 votes, only 22.18% of the total votes.

Demographically, Rohit Sharma garnered the majority of his votes from the West- an insane 40028 votes. Virat Kohli, on the other hand, got only 2130 votes from the west. This happened because Sharma comes from the Western side of the country, and hence, he was bound to bag votes. Kohli dominated the Northern region of the country, for the same reason. Kohli had 12328 votes from the North, whereas Rohit bagged 8154 votes. Rohit dominated the South and Eastside as well. From the East, Rohit received 2198 votes, whereas Kohli only got 673 votes. From the South, Sharma was voted by 1902 fans, whereas Kohli was voted by only 239 fans.

These stats clearly indicate that the fans want Sharma to take over the captaincy for the ODI and T20 format. These stats however may or may not influence the decision of the BCCI. Seeing India’s poor form in recent times, they might opt Rohit for the captaincy of the team. However, it could also be that they give Kohli another chance to prove himself. Ultimately, it is up to the BCCI to take the final decision.
