The Young batter Tilak Varma got his first India call-up for the West Indies T20Is last week as a result of his time with the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. After registering numerous match-winning innings for the Mumbai Indians, the middle-order batter promptly established himself as an integral part of the Indian squad.

The Mumbai Indians' star left a big mark in 2023 as he amassed 343 runs in 11 matches at an excellent average of 42.88. Notably, the dashing batsman had skipped a couple of matches initially, but during the second qualifier against the Gujarat Titans, the left-handed batter struck an outstanding 43 runs off 14 balls to help the Mumbai Indians rebuild their quest after some early blows. Furthermore, the 20-year-old was purchased by MI for Rs 1.7 crore during the IPL 2022 mega auction as they spotted him as a player with tremendous potential.

Ready for life's next chapter: Tilak Varma

Notably, the 20-year-old star is all set to embark on his new journey. He took to social media and captioned it, "Blessings from my family and wishes from my friends. Ready for life's next chapter."

On top of that, the star batter's coach, Bayash, also expressed happiness over his maiden India call-up "I was so happy I can't tell you. I was in tears to see this kid rejoice. I will give all the credit to his hard work. He has worked day and night for this day. I am sure he will go a long way," his coach said after he was selected for the upcoming T20I series against the West Indies.

Notably, Indian star opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was also named to India's squad. The dashing batter had produced an impact in the IPL by collecting 625 runs for the Rajasthan Royals, featuring five half-centuries and one century. The 21-year-old Jaiswal made the most use of the powerplay and scored substantial runs in the first couple of overs, meanwhile, the Hyderabad-born batter Varma has been an effective middle-order batter for the Mumbai Indians, putting up 343 runs in the most recent IPL at an average of nearly 43.

Notably, it looks like the Agarkar-led selection committee altered India's strategy in T20Is in consideration of the evolving demands of the shorter format.
