India will miss the services of Kohli in the 3 Tests against Australia. The Indian skipper was available for only the 1st Test. Kohli is on paternity leave, as he has to attend the birth of his 1st child. Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Pravin Amre feels that this could be a blessing KL Rahul. Rahul is set to take the place of Kohli in the 2nd Test against Australia. Amre backs KL Rahul to deliver and make a point against the Aussies in the remainder of the Test series.
Amre stated that Kohli was pivotal in India’s success in their last tour of Australia. It is quite evident that it is a challenge to fill the void that Kohli will leave. Kohli is currently the no 2 ranked Test batsman as per ICC rankings. The Indian skipper has a tally of 888 points, second only to Australian batsman Steve Smith.
Amre, who bagged a Test hundred in his debut against South Africa in 1992, reckons that this opportunity is one to take. KL Rahul has been superb if we consider the limited overs format. He played some crucial knocks in the ODI and T20I series against the "Men in Yellow".
Rahul has got the ideal basics and temperament : Pravin Amre
The 52 year old backed his claim by stating that Rahul has all the qualities to succeed in the Test format. In his first years, KL Rahul amassed 3 consecutive centuries in the Ranji Trophy. Rahul was more of a Test player in the beginning. However, he came in the international format and performed superbly in the limited overs format. This is quite evident by the fact that he was the highest run getter in IPL 2020.
In just 14 matches, Rahul smashed 670 runs. Not only that, Rahul was also the second highest run getter in the T20I format in 2020. He amassed 404 runs in the entire year. Amre stated that Rahul is hungry as always to get game time under his belt.
Amre believes that KL Rahul has a golden opportunity, and should utilise it to its fullest. In his Test career, KL Rahul has played 36 matches. In 60 innings, Rahul has amassed 2006 runs. He will look forward to carrying his tally in the upcoming Boxing Day Test against Australia.
