Hyderabad beat Punjab by seven wickets to win the 28th match of the Indian T20 League. After winning the toss, Hyderabad decided to bowl first at the DY Patil Stadium. As Mayank Agarwal was ruled out of the match due to a toe injury, Prabhsimran Singh opened the batting along with Shikhar Dhawan. The stand-in captain, Dhawan, did not have the best start as he gave away his wicket to Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the third over. Singh also followed as T Natarajan took his wicket in the fifth over. Liam Livingstone and Jonny Bairstow were at the crease, and Punjab reached 48 runs in the powerplay.

Wickets kept falling for Punjab as they lost Bairstow and Jitesh Sharma before the eighth over. Suchith trapped Bairstow in front of the wicket in the seventh over, and Umran Malik got rid of Sharma. Punjab were 61 for four after eight overs. Livingstone and Shahrukh Khan then stitched some good runs for their side. They added 71 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Khan (26 runs in 28 balls) fell to Kumar in the 17th over. Meanwhile, Livingstone went on to score a superb half-century (60 runs in 33 balls).

He was finally dismissed on the last ball of the penultimate over. Punjab was 151 for six runs in 19 overs. Umran Malik then produced a miraculous last over as he bowled a didn't give any runs in the 20th over. He got the wickets of Odean Smith, Rahul Chahar, and Vaibhav Arora in the over. He tried to complete his hattrick on the last ball, but Arshdeep Singh got bat on ball, and was run out on the final delivery. Hyderabad needed just 152 runs to win the match.

The orange army once again had a slow start to their chase. They lost Kane Williamson early on to Kagiso Rabada in the fourth over. Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi then held on to the second wicket in the powerplay and took Hyderabad to a score of 39. The duo carried on to play until the ninth over before Tripathi (34 runs in 22 balls) fell to Rahul Chahar for a score of 62. Sharma (31 runs in 25 balls) also fell to Chahar in the 11th over for a score of 77 runs.

Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram then had to finish the job for them. The two put up a great show as they added 75 runs. Markram, in the end, hit the winning six to guide his team to their fourth consecutive win of the season. He scored an unbeaten 41 from 27 balls, and Pooran added 35 runs in 30 balls.
