The second ODI between India and West Indies got underway on Sunday at Trinidad. Realising his mistake after the first ODI, West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran decided to bat first this time after winning the toss. The openers Kyle Myers and Shai Hope further vindicated the captainโ€™s decision as they gave an explosive start at the top of the order adding 65 runs in 9.1 overs.

Myers was dismissed by Deepak Hooda after scoring 39 off 23 balls. After losing the first wicket, Hope did what he knows best i.e holding one end and gradually building on his innings. The star batter made his intentions clear as he got off the mark with a fierce square cut off the last ball of the first over of the innings by Mohammad Siraj.

West Indies posted a decent total in the first Inninngs

Hope carefully planned his innings as he took calculated risks to look for boundaries and also rotated the strike consistently. The opener reached his half-century in the 21st over of the innings off 69 balls as he slog-swept Yuzvendra Chahal over deep mid-wicket for a six. Hope was involved in another two good partnerships. First with Shamarh Brooks of 62 runs and then with captain Pooran of 117 runs for the fourth wicket as West Indies set their eyes on a big total.

Hope once again took a back seat as Pooran was playing a blistering knock launching bowlers into the stands one after the other. The batter was happy to play the waiting game as his captain irked the bowlers with his monstrous hits. Once Pooran got out at the score of 247/4 after 43.4 overs, the onus to take the innings forward came to Hope and he didnโ€™t disappoint as he brought up his 100 playing in his 100th ODI of his career. Hope became the fourth West Indian batter to achieve this feat.

The batter was finally dismissed in the 49th over trying to add some quick runs to the West Indies total. Hopes scored 115 off 135 balls scoring 8 boundaries and 3 gigantic sixes.

Hereโ€™s how Twitter is reacting to his brilliant knock:
