Lakshya Sen, doubles duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, and Kidambi Srikanth created history when they led the Indian men's badminton team to their maiden Thomas Cup win.ย  India defeated 14 time winners Indonesia 3-0 to achieve this historic feat. In the second singles, Kidambi Srikanth defeated Jonatan Christie 21-15, 23-21 to give India its first gold medal in the competition's history.

Earlier, Lakshya was outstanding in his come-from-behind victory over world number five Anthony Sinisuka Ginting. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty then outwitted Mohammad Ahsan and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo with their skill set and expertise in the doubles game. Satwik and Chirag won the game 18-21, 23-21, 21-19, while Lakshya won 8-21, 21-17, and 21-16.

Lakshya won the game with great zeal and courage in the final. Satwik and Chirag's emotions got the best of them for a brief while after being neck-and-neck with Indonesian stars. However, with a little poise and superb nerve management, India was able to force the game into a decider. Chirag's cross-court smash gave India a 2-0 lead.

In the end, Satwik gave India the perfect 3-0 victory. HS Prannoy, who had played vital roles in the previous two knockout rounds, as well as the doubles pair of MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila, were not required today.

Meanwhile, Twitter went crazy over India's dominant 3-0 win. "The Indian badminton team has scripted history! The entire nation is elated by India winning the Thomas Cup! Congratulations to our accomplished team and best wishes to them for their future endeavours. This win will motivate so many upcoming sportspersons," PM Narendra Modi tweeted.
