The veteran batter and Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma is set to achieve two major milestones together while taking the field in the Asia Cup 2023 final against Sri Lanka. Notably, Rohit recently reached the milestone of 10,000 ODI runs in India’s second super-4 clash against Sri Lanka. He also became the second fastest to accomplish this feat just after his teammate and former Indian skipper, Virat Kohli.
The Asia Cup 2023 final against the Islanders will be the 250th ODI appearance for Rohit Sharma; whereas it will also be the 450th international appearance for him since his debut 16 years back in the year 2007.
Rohit Sharma to lead India in ODI Asia Cup for second consecutive time
India have made it to the final of the ODI Asia Cup for the second consecutive time under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. The last time, was 5 years back in 2018 when India defeated Bangladesh by 3 wickets in the summit clash of the Asia Cup 2018 to clinch the title.
Rohit has played 52 Tests, 249 ODIs, and 148 T20Is for India in his illustrious career of 16 years; in these appearances, the 36-year-old has scored 3677 Test runs with an average of 46.54, 10,031 ODI runs with an average of 48.69, and 3,853 T20I runs, respectively. It also includes 10 Test centuries, 30 ODI centuries, and 4 T20I centuries from his bat. Apart from that, he is the only batter in the history of the game to smash 3 ODI double-centuries individually.
The star Mumbai batter will also be leading the men in blue for the first time in the ODI World Cup when he takes the field in the group match against Australia in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, in India.
Currently, the five-time IPL-winning skipper is the second-highest run-scorer for India in the T20Is just after Virat Kohli; on the other hand, he is in the sixth spot in the list of highest run scorers for India in ODIs.
