In the 63rd game of the ongoing IPL 2023, Lucknow Super Giants played host to Mumbai Indians at the Ekana Stadium. Ahead of the game, the five-time winners were coming off two back-to-back wins at home. However, this was going to be a different challenge for them. On the other hand, the home team won against Sunrisers Hyderabad to keep their hopes alive.

Both teams needed to win this one to get closer to the playoff spot. Meanwhile, in the game, MI won the toss and elected to bowl first on a dry surface. They had a great start as Jason Behrendorff took the wickets of Deepak Hooda and Prerak Mankad in the third over. Quinton de Kock (16) who was going fine was caught behind by Ishan Kishan off Piyush Chawla.

At 35/3, the likes of Krunal Pandya and Marcus Stoinis put together 82 runs before the former retired hurt. Pandya scored 48 not out while Stoinis got to 89 not out. In the last five overs, he took the team to 177/3 at the end of the innings.

Mumbai Indians managed to bottle the game despite a great start

In reply, the former champions had a great start as skipper Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan made batting look easy. They put together 90 runs in just 9.4 overs. The former scored 37 off 25 balls including three sixes and a four before getting out to Ravi Bishnoi. Two overs later, Kishan got out to the same bowler after scoring 59 runs. These two wickets changed the game somewhat in the favor of the LSG.

Suryakumar Yadav, who has been one of the match winners for the team, was dismissed for seven by impact sub-Yash Thakur. On the other hand, Nehal Wadhera struggled for his way to 20-ball 16 before getting out to Mohsin Khan. Thakur took another wicket in the form of Vishnu Vinod in the 18th over to make things difficult for the chasing team. Despite Tim David trying well in the end, they lost the game by five runs.
