The Delhi-based franchise clashed against Lucknow in their opening match of the Indian T20 League 2023 and embarrassingly lost the match by 50 runs. However, they played the match without their regular captain, Rishabh Pant, who became a victim of a horrific car accident last year. Due to this incident, he was out of the entire season and, this is why, star Australian batter David Warner is captaining the team.

Meanwhile, a great news has come to the fore for Pant's fans as he will be attending Delhi's second match which is set to be played on their home ground, Arun Jaitley Stadium against the defending champions Gujarat on Tuesday, April 4. He will come to the stadium to support Delhi during this match. According to some reports, the Delhi & District Cricket Association has also confirmed that the wicketkeeper-batter will be present during the match.

Rishabh Pant is on road to recovery

Earlier on April 1, during the match played between Delhi and Lucknow, the team hung Pant's number 17 jersey in the dugout to feel his presence. Delhi's team management already revealed even before the start of the league that Pant's jersey would remain with them throughout the season. At the same time, their head coach Ricky Ponting said that he would try to bring Pant to the stadium to boost the morale of the team.

Talking about Pant's accident, his car collided with the railing near Hammadpur Jhal on Roorkee's Narsan border at around 5.30 am on 30 December 2022. After this accident, the car caught fire and Pant was seriously injured in the accident.

After this incident, he was admitted to a hospital in Dehradun, after which he was airlifted to Mumbai. However, he didn't sustain any serious injury but later his knee and ankle ligament tear surgery was done. It is reported that Pant will take a long time to make a comeback on the cricket field and he is also set to miss all major tournaments in 2023.
