With the IPL 2021 set to take the stage soon, IPL franchises are on the lookout for players who could improve the team’s overall performance. Furthermore, franchises might also look to offload players who haven’t been worth the investment.

Aakash Chopra has voiced his opinions regarding the IPL 2021 franchise. Raising quite a few eyebrows this season, Aakash wants that KKR releases some star players this season. These include the likes of Sunil Narine, Eoin Morgan, Pat Cummins, and Dinesh Karthik. Pointing to KKR, Chopra believes that KKR should trust some players, retaining them for the next season. Here are 3 players Aakash Chopra believes should be retained next season:

1. Andre Russell

Arguably KKR’s most explosive batsman, Andre Russell has single-handedly won KKR matches on several occasions. However, in IPL 2020, Russell failed to deliver the goods. Managing to amass only 117 runs and 6 wickets in 10 games, it was barely a season to remember for Russell. Even after such a dismal run this season for Russell, Chopra believes that releasing him would prove too dangerous. Chopra has faith in Russell to reignite next season and states that KKR should stick with him.

2. Varun Chakravarthy

Chakravarthy had quite a dismal start to his IPL career. In 2019, Chakravarthy managed to play only one game in the entire season. With an expensive economy of 11.67 last season, Chakravarthy picked up only one wicket. The KKR management, however, had faith in him. Chakravarthy did not disappoint this time. Picking up 17 wickets in just 13 games, Chakravarthy was one of the finds this season. With an economy of just 6.84 this season, Chakravarthy was arguably KKR’s best bowler this season.

Every IPL franchise is eyeing a mystery spinner next season. Hence Chopra believes that KKR should retain Chakravarthy next season. With such a terrific performance, it is quite evident why Chopra believes so.

3. Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill was the highest run-getter for KKR this season, amassing 440 runs in just 14 matches. With Gill boasting an average of 33.84 this season, Chopra backs Gill to be KKR captain next season. The only problem with Gill has been his average strike rate this season. Gill got off to a slow start this season, improving tremendously as the season progressed. Impressing the KKR management with his batting performance, Gill has the backing of Chopra.

Chopra believes that KKR should hold onto such a key player, instead of stupidly giving him away in the auction next season.
