Former cricketer Aakash Chopra feels that Mumbai Indians duo Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan might get to play against England. Chopra believes that Yadav and Kishan have a better chance of playing for the national team on account of their stellar performances in IPL 2020.
Suryakumar Yadav amassed 480 runs in just 16 matches for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020. In 101 matches in his IPL career, Suryakumar Yadav has hit a total of 2024 runs. Ishan Kishan, on the other hand, smashed 516 runs in 14 matches in IPL 2020. Overall, Kishan has amassed a total of 1211 runs in his entire IPL career. With the likes of Sanju Samson and Shreyas Iyer unable to impress, we might get to see these two play in the T20I series against England.
Sanju Samson has a rather dismal outing against Australia, managing to put only 48 runs to his name. Shreyas Iyer, on the other hand, did not contribute a single essential knock against Australia in the T20I series. With such performances, one simply cannot expect to be retained for the upcoming T20I series against England. England is currently the highest-ranked team in the ICC T20I rankings, with 6877 points in 25 matches.
India, on the other hand, is at no 3 with 10186 points in 38 matches. The reason why England currently leads India is that England has a higher rating than that of India. As of now, England has a rating of 275, whereas India has a rating of 268.
Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yada’s selection is around the corner: Aakash Chopra
Another reason why Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan might be considered for the T20I format is the huge injury list of the Indian side. Yadav and Kishan are constantly knocking on the door and their chances of making it are even higher now.
Chopra concluded that if Yadav and Kishan have a decent IPL 2021 outing, they can definitely play some international cricket. Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan are two strong contenders to represent the national team in their upcoming T20I encounters. Many pundits are questioning why their selection has not been made. If Samson and Iyer want to continue playing for India, they need to back it with some strong performances.
With the T20I world cup around the corner, India would want to build a stable batting lineup. It could also be the case that Yadav and Kishan get to play for India in the T20I world cup.
