Despite having neutral umpires officiate the title match, Aaron Finch questioned the three reviews for each side rule. But he backed the two review per team rule used in cricket.

Finch questioned the three review rule on Twitter. According to him, the review is needed when home umpires officiate the match. But later on, while answering a fan question, he backed the two review per innings rule. He also agreed with the additional changes made in the review system last year.

Michael Gough and Richard Illingworth have officiated the India versus New Zealand one-off Test. Thereby, the WTC final has neutral umpires in the game as both of them are from England.

What rule change did Aaron Finch refer to?

Aaron Finch referred to the regulation that the ICC brought in last year after Test cricket resumed following the Covid-19 enforced break.

With travel constraints due to the ongoing pandemic, ICC removed the requirement to have neutral umpires at matches. But to prevent the drop in quality of umpiring, they added an extra DRS review per team for each innings.

Aaron Finch clarified that he does not think the decision is wrong. It is an amazing decision for the betterment of the game. But he just wondered why the rule has not changed back when neutral officials officiated the WTC Final game. Moreover, he questioned if the rule would stay the same in all formats in modern-day matches.

Nevertheless, ICC has stuck by the rule for the WTC final with both sides getting three reviews per innings. But the Kiwis have already used one of their reviews. Kane Williamson has unsuccessfully reviewed an LBW call against Rohit Sharma during the first session of the championship final.

WTC Final: Weather update of Day 3 at Southampton

The first day of the championship match got washed out due to rain. But the match finally got underway on day 2 of the one-off Test.

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss and decided to bowl first based on the overcast conditions. The Indian team made 146 runs at the loss of 3 wickets in 64.4 overs on day 2.

Looking ahead to Day 3 in Southampton, the forecast predicted a 13% probability of a thunderstorm. But there would be a 93% cloud cover with few showers of rain expected throughout the day. The temperature would be around 19 Degree Celsius.

If there are more rain delays, then ICC would have to use the reserve day to complete the match. A call to utilize the reserve day would be done on the 5th day of the one-off Test.
