The ODI series between India and Australia is underway today. This is India’s first International match post the COVID-19 break. Australia will have a bit of an advantage as they recently played against England this September. The Aussies would look to take revenge when India beat them 2-1 back in the 2018-19 tour of Australia.
Before the ODI series commenced, Aaron Finch had something to say about Indian captain Virat Kohli. The Australian captain believes that Kohli is arguably the best batsman of all time. Finch was nothing but praises for Kohli. Finch believed that if Kohli is not taken care of early, he might inflict huge damage to the team. Finch and Kohli were part of the RCB team in IPL 2020 held in the UAE.
Kohli probably the greatest ODI player of all time: Aaron Finch
Both Finch and Kohli have spent a couple of months of training together. Finch has also stated that plans to dismiss Kohli have backfired brutally on several occasions. Finch will try to marshall the bowling department against such a strong Indian batting side.
Finch himself had a rather dismal IPL season. Playing 11 matches, Finch managed to score only one fifty, with a mediocre strike rate of 111. Training hard with Australia’s assistant coach Andrew McDonald, Finch believes he can make a comeback sooner than expected.
Australia has also decided not to go with an extra all-rounder against India. In their recent clash against England, Australia has Mitchell Marsh as a backup. However, with Steve Smith’s return, they would not need an extra all-rounder. Finch has entrusted both Maxwell and Stoinis with the 5th bowler responsibility. The duo has earned quite the reputation for bowling consistently in recent times. Australia also has the likes of Moises Henriques and Ashton Agar in their squad.
Finch states that Maxwell and Stoinis will be essential to the team in both the bowling and batting aspects. Maxwell had a rather disappointing IPL season this year. In 13 matches, Maxwell only scored 103 runs and picked 3 wickets. Finch, however, has backed Maxwell to reignite his lost spark and make a comeback against India. Stoinis, meanwhile, had quite a fantastic IPL season. In just 17 matches, Stoinis smashed 352 runs and picked 13 wickets. Hise IPL heroics deservedly earned him a spot in the playing XI.
With the teams set for war, it will be quite interesting to see who emerges victorious in the end.
