AB de Villiers bagged another milestone, becoming the 6th player in IPL history to amass 5000 runs. The RCB cricketer achieved this feat in the 22nd match of IPL 2021 against DC. Before entering the game, de Villiers had 4978 runs in just 160 innings. Hence, he needed just 22 in the match against DC to achieve the milestone.
Only 5 players managed to achieve this feat before the South African cricketer. They are Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, and David Warner. AB de Villiers smacked 75 runs off just 42 balls against DC to guide RCB to a total of 171. In reply, DC scored 170 at the end of 20 overs, losing by a margin of just 1 run.
AB de Villiers delivers for RCB yet again
DC skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and put RCB to bat first. RCB’s openers failed to provide their side with an ideal start. The duo of Kolhi and Padikkal could only contribute a total of 29 runs to the total. Glenn Maxwell failed to register a big score, amassing 25 runs in 20 balls. Rajat Patidar kept ticking runs on the board, scoring 31 runs in 22 balls. However, the main threat from the RCB side was AB de Villiers yet again. The South African took DC’s bowlers to the cleaners, smacking 75 off 42 balls. The highlight of the game was when de Villiers amassed 23 runs off the over of Marcus Stoinis. Time and again, the South African has delivered for RCB with the bat.
AB de Villiers becomes the 3rd fastest player to register 5000 runs in IPL history
It took only 161 innings for AB de Villiers to register 5000 runs in his IPL career. The South African is the 3rd fastest player to score 5000 runs in the IPL so far. Only 2 batsmen have played 161 innings or less to achieve the milestone. Virat Kohli managed to amass 5000 runs in his 157th inning in the IPL. However, the fastest batsman to accomplish this feat is SRH skipper David Warner. It took David Warner only 135 innings to amass 5000 runs in his IPL career. Apart from David Warner, AB de Villiers is the only foreign player to score 5000 runs in the IPL.
