Pakistan skipper, Babar Azam has had a forgettable outing in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022. He failed miserably with the bat, having managed only 8 runs in 3 matches in the tournament so far. In the first match against India, he got out for a golden duck and followed it up with scores of 4 (9) and 4 (5) respectively.

Fans and cricket experts have criticized him brutally and some of them have even advised him to drop himself to the number three position instead of opening the innings. Amidst his lean patch, former South African captain, Ab de Villiers has heaped praise on Babar Azam and credited him for helping Pakistan deliver consistent performances in international cricket.

"Babar Azam is an amazing player. I watched him play for the first time, saying this boy can play. He is a fantastic addition to Pakistan's success, and it's great to see young generations taking ownership." AB de Villiers said.

"The batting side of Pakistan has always been a problem; it was never solid enough, it always goes up and down, and I feel they are in a place of consistency because of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan", he added.

Pakistan are currently languishing at second from the bottom of the table with 1 win in 3 matches in the Group 2. They registered two consecutive losses against India and Zimbabwe before winning their last match against the Netherlands.

The Men in Green had restricted the Netherlands to just 91 runs in the first innings. Shadab Khan was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 for 22 in 4 overs. In reply, Pakistan chased down the score in 13.5 overs. M Rizwan starred with the bat as he amassed 49 runs in 39 deliveries, including 5 fours.

Babar Azam and Co. are slated to play their next match against South Africa on Thursday in Sydney.
