AB De Villiers wins 25th Man of the Match award, sets a special record

Wicket-keeper batsman AB de Villiers has now become the first cricketer to bag the Player of the Match award 25 times in IPL. Former South African skipper accomplished this milestone after being awarded the Man of the Match in the IPL 2021 fixture between the DC and RCB on Tuesday. AB de Villiers played a brilliant knock of 75 runs to help his side clinch the fifth victory of the season. The 37-year-old slammed five sixes and three fours in his unbeaten 42-ball knock against Delhi Capitals.

AB De Villiers' knock against DC has also helped him go past the 5000-run mark in the Indian Premier League. The right-handed batsman became the second overseas player to do so after David Warner. He is also the first and only cricketer with over 5000 runs and a strike rate of over 150 in the IPL. The Proteas pacer is also the fastest to the mark, having done so in 3288 balls.

In the match no. 22, DC captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and asked RCB to bat first. De Villiers' unbeaten innings of 75 runoff just 42 balls helped RCB post a decent total of 171/5 in their allotted 20-overs quota. Besides De Villiers, Rajat Patidar and Glenn Maxwell also performed well. The dup scored 31 and 25, respectively. Virat Kohli & Co. have now won five out of the six games they have played. RCB is presently sitting at the pinnacle of the IPL 2021 points table with 10 points in their kitty.

AB de Villiers started the 14th IPL season on a brilliant note. In just six games, the RCB batsman has scored 201 runs at an average of 68.00 and a blistering strike rate of 174.35. He has also scored 2 half-centuries in the tournament so far. ABD is also spotted sixth in the Orange Cap race. The veteran will look to carry his excellent form in the upcoming matches and help RCB win their maiden IPL title. The cricketer has so far featured in 175 IPL games, with a majority of his games coming for Royal Challengers Bangalore. In those games, De Villiers has amassed 5053 runs. He has scored those runs at an impressive average of 41.08 and a stunning strike rate of 152.70. This also includes 40 half-centuries and three hundred.
