Former India skipper Virat Kohli has opened up on the time when he took a long break from cricket. From IPL 2022 to the England tour last year, he hardly could score runs across formats. After the UK tour, Kohli decided to take a break from the game, skipping the tours of Zimbabwe and the West Indies. The right-hander made his comeback in the Men's Asia Cup in the UAE.

Since then, he has scored hundreds across formats, something he was lacking since late 2019. Meanwhile, the Delhi player is currently playing for his franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore. During a conversation with Jio Cinema for the launch of their Green Kit, used to spread awareness around the environment, the 34-year-old spoke a lot about his break time.

“I was willing to accept that when I go back and play, it might be the last month of me playing competitive cricket.” Further speaking with Robin Uthappa he said, “Anushka’s conversations with me have always been priceless, she tells me the truth & straight forward, if I would have left myself in that phase (before Asia Cup), I would have become an egoistic maniac – she brings me to base level for a normal guy.”

Sachin Paaji is our source of inspiration: Virat Kohli

During the same interview, Kohli added that he saw Sachin Tendulkar the same way a lot of Indian fans used to see him.

“For me, Sachin Paaji has always been an emotion. You speak to anyone they always looked at him as one of their own and that happens because there is so much faith everyone has in him, and in fact, when he was playing we used to feel comfortable.

“He is our source of inspiration and source of comfort which we all look for, when he used to score runs, life was good. It is like eating home food, you know the feeling we get, the comfort”, he further added.
