Former India left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha has spoken about his early conversations with Mumbai’s captain Rohit Sharma. Ojha recalled how Rohit used to deliver milk packets to buy his cricket kit and how he got emotional talking about his impoverished background. “He was from a middle-class family and I remember he once got emotional when we discussed how his budget for cricket kits was restricted. In fact, he also delivered milk packets – of course that was really a long time ago – so that he could buy his kit. Now when I see him, I feel very proud of how our journey started and where we reached,” said Ojha.

Ojha also talked about his first meeting with Rohit at a U-15 national camp, where everyone was already talking about the special talent that Rohit possessed. “There, I played against him and took his wicket. Rohit was a typical Bombay guy who didn’t speak much but was aggressive when he played. In fact, I was very surprised as to why he was being so aggressive with me when we didn’t know each other! But after that our friendship began to grow,” Ojha added.

Furthermore, Ojha spoke about Rohit’s ability to keep the mood light in the dressing room and how he played pranks on his teammates. “Till the time Rohit got a chance to play for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy we had just known each other. But our friendship grew when we came to a common point. He was a good mimic and I really like people who can play pranks, and Rohit is among them,” said Ojha.

Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians will play their Indian T20 League season 16 opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 2. The team will look to start their campaign on a winning note. Meanwhile, RCB will be led by South African great Faf du Plessis.

The conversation between Ojha and Sharma highlights the struggles that many cricketers face in their journey to becoming successful. It also showcases the camaraderie and friendships that are formed between players in the sport. Rohit’s journey from delivering milk packets to buying his cricket kit to becoming one of the most successful Indian cricketers is an inspiration to many aspiring players.
