Pakistan vs Sri Lanka

Pakistan are in a comfortable position against Sri Lanka in the ongoing first Test heading into Day 5. They are now just 83 runs away from winning the Test series opener in Galle against the hosts at the end of the fourth day of the match. At the time of stumps, Pakistan had lost 3 wickets for 48 runs in 15 overs with skipper Babar Azam and opener Imam-ul-Haq in the middle. Both batters went unbeaten for 25 and 6 runs respectively.

Sri Lanka started their second innings from the third day’s score of 14 runs for no loss. Young spinner Abrar Ahmed managed to provide the first breakthrough for Pakistan as he trapped the opponent skipper Dimuth Karunaratne and scalped his wicket. The first innings’ centurion Dhananjaya de Silva played a crucial role in the second innings as well. He played an important knock of 82 runs to neutralise the match.

Other than him, opener Nishan Madushka and lower-order batter Ramesh Mendis also contributed with important knocks of 52 and 42 runs respectively. Noman Ali and Abrar scalped three wickets each to play a crucial role in bundling up Sri Lanka for 279 runs in the second innings. Apart from these two, Agha Salman and star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi claimed two wickets each. Sri Lanka managed to post a target of 131 runs in the fourth innings of the match.

Pakistan's top order failed to get a good start to their run chase on the fourth day as they lost three wickets only on the score of 38 runs before skipper Babar Azam came in to bat. Heading into Day 5, it would take something miraculous from Sri Lanka to come back and snatch victory over the visitors. As far as Pakistan are concerned, they would look to take their time out and not rush into the chase on final day.
