Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson is going through a lean patch with the bat in the T20I format, which has also been reflected in the five-match T20I series against West Indies. He could only muster the scores of 12,7 and 13 runs in the three innings, he played for India.

He fell prey to Romario Shephard in the fifth and last T20I of the series on the individual score of 13 runs off 9 balls with 2 boundaries. Sanju was picked in the playing XI as a replacement wicketkeeper in place of young wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan.

He is currently in action during the ongoing fifth and last T20I of the five-match series against the Caribbean side. The hosts are looking for a strong post position while chasing the target of 166 runs.

Earlier, Indian skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to bat first, the young opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal failed to repeat their performance in the penultimate match of the series. India lost both the openers on the score of 17 runs.

It was only the World’s number one T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav, who played a crucial knock of 61 runs off 45 balls to help India reach a total of 165 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Apart from him, only the young batter Tilka Varma could cross the individual mark of 20+ runs; he scored 27 runs off 18 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes.

Romario Shepherd emerged as the star performer for the hosts in the series decider, he scalped 4 wickets after conceding 31 runs in his quota of 4 overs. Apart from Shepherd, Akeal Hosein and Alzarri Joseph also picked two wickets each, alongside one claimed by Roston Chase.

Coming back to Sanju Samson’s poor outings in the entire T20I series against West Indies, it didn’t go down well with a section of the Indian cricket fans. They went on to criticize Samson for not utilizing the given opportunity.
