Recent media reports in Indian cricket have learned that the former Indian pacer Ajit Agarkar is among the frontrunners to be the chief selector of Team India. Notably, the post is vacant since the infamous ‘sting’ episode involving the former chief selector, Chetan Sharma.

Meanwhile, the governing body of cricket has also announced the schedule for the ODI World Cup 2023 which is to be played in India. The tournament will start on the 5th of October later this year with the inaugural match of the tournament between the defending champions England and the runners-up of World Cup 2019, New Zealand.
The Rohit Sharma-led Team India will start their campaign in the tournament with the first match against the five-time World Cup Champions, Australia. India and Australia will lock horns in their first group-stage match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, the 8th of October 2023.
Team India will be facing their arch-rivals Pakistan in the high-octane clash on Sunday, the 15th of October 2023.
Coming back to the chief selector concern for Team India, it would be very crucial for the Indian Cricket Board to appoint a capable chief selector considering the World Cup 2023 as a priority. The team selection for the prestigious quadrennial is going to be very important as a few of the star players of the team are out of action due to injuries.
The list includes the two big names including the likes of middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer and the pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah.
