Team India made in-roads in the second Test against West Indies in the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad on the fourth day. The hosts continued from their overnight score of 229/5 but were bundled out within 7.4 overs as they could only add 26 runs to their overnight total, conceding a first-innings lead of 183 runs.
Mohammed Siraj remained the pick of the Indian bowlers for the second innings with a five-wicket haul, returning with figures of 5-60 in 23.4 overs. Debutant Mukesh Kumar and Ravindra Jadeja picked up two wickets each as Ravichandran Ashwin bagged only one wicket in a quiet outing. Skipper Kraigg Brathwaite remained the top-scorer for West Indies in the second innings with 75 off 235 balls, including five boundaries and a maximum. Three batters scored in the thirties – Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Kirk McKenzie, and Alick Athanaze as they could only manage 255 in reply for India’s 438.

The visitors came in to bat again as they scored a quickfire 181 runs before declaring in just 24 overs. Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma stitched a partnership of 98 runs as the skipper became the first wicket to fall at the score of 57 off 44, including five boundaries and three sixes. Yashasvi Jaiswal followed his skipper shortly as he managed 38 off 30, including four boundaries and a six. Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan remained unbeaten on 29 off 37 and 52 off 34, respectively as Rohit Sharma’s men declared at the score of 181/2. Kishan smashed four fours and a maximum in his quickfire knock. For West Indies, Shannon Gabriel and Jomel Warrican returned with one wicket each.
The hosts then began to bat in the final innings of the match. After a decent start, they lost two quick wickets in the form of skipper Kraigg Brathwaite who scored 28 off 52, including five fours, and Kirk McKenzie who was dismissed for a four-ball duck. Tagenarine Chanderpaul (24* off 98) and Jermaine Blackwood (20* off 39) will continue on the final day. Both wickets were scalped by India’s spin ace Ravichandran Ashwin to bounce back from his relatively quieter outing in the first innings.
