Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant's magnificent ton on Friday put the hosts 89 runs ahead of England. Veteran India batsman Kris Srikkanth mentioned that he hadn't seen such innings by a wicketkeeper since the time Adam Gilchrist played. He also stated that Pant's knock came at the time when the hosts needed it the most. India was struggling on 80/4 when Pant came in to bat.

Rishabh Pant scored his third Test century on Friday. He helped team India to bail out of trouble at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The young batsman stitched together crucial partnerships with Rohit Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Washington Sundar to get the team past 205. He then got the side 54 runs ahead by the time he departed for 101.

Surprisingly, with his third Test century, Pant joined Gilchrist as the only wicketkeepers to have notched up Test centuries in India, Australia, and England. The Indian wicketkeeper-batsman has repeatedly been compared to the Australian legend owing to his attacking instincts with the bat. There were rich praises for Rishabh Pant from the entire cricket fraternity following his hundred on Friday. One of the applauds came from the current BCCI President and retired India skipper Sourav Ganguly. Indian opening batsman Rohit Sharma also termed Rishabh's knock as his finest in Test cricket so far.

Nine wickets down, the hosts are building on their strong lead against England on Day 3. Washington Sundar and Mohammed Siraj are currently batting for India, and the duo is building a steady partnership. Sundar has already recorded a fifty and will be aiming to add more runs to the scoreboard. India finished Day two with a lead of 89 runs, scoring 294 for seven in response to England's first innings total of 205 runs. Despite losing quick wickets on Day 2, a hundred by Rishabh Pant and Sundar's unbeaten knock helped India turn the tide to their side. The World Test Championship final is also at stake for the hosts, who have to avoid defeat in this Test. If India wins the fourth Test, they will face New Zealand at Lord's later this year in the WTC final.
