Sachin Tendulkar, the former India cricketer, has lodged a complaint with the Mumbai Police over the unauthorised use of his name, photo and voice in "misleading advertisements", the official statement read. The Cyber Cell of the Mumbai Police has filed a case against an unidentified person which comes under sections 426, 465 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

In the complaint, Sachin pointed out that the advertisements have been aired and used without seeking the requisite permission. This has misled the citizens into buying the products and services online. Tendulkar is currently part of the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023. He is the icon of MI. Tendulkar has been with the MI side and also captained it for quite some time. He was picked as an icon player by MI in the 2008 IPL auction.

“At SRT Sports Management Pvt. Ltd. (SRTSM), we have noticed that there have been attempts to impersonate Mr Sachin Tendulkar’s attributes in an unauthorized manner, for selling products and services not associated with him. These are being done with a deliberate and malicious intention of misleading gullible citizens to buy unauthorised products and services online,” The statement by SRSTM said.

“We have lodged an official complaint with the Cyber Cell department and have highlighted these to social media platforms where such misleading advertisements are being broadcast,” the statement further added. An investigation is currently underway regarding the matter. One of Tendulkar's aides who was the complainant also indicated that the advertisement of a drug company alleged that its products were endorsed by Tendulkar.

The complainant had also come across a website, sachinhealth.in, which promoted these products using Tendulkar's photo. As Tendulkar had never given the authorised permission to the company to use his name and photographs and it was also putting Tendulkar in bad light which would end up maligning his image, he also told his aide to take legal action, the complaint said. Tendulkar has scored 51 Test centuries and 49 ODI hundreds for India.
