The Indian Premier League 2023 witnessed yet another last-over thriller as Gujarat Titans beat Punjab Kings on Thursday. The cash-rich league tournament has provided some nail-biter's in the last few days, which has kept the fans entertained.
The match between GT and PBKS played at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, was no different. Sam Curran tried to hold back Gujarat, but Rahul held his nerves to take his team through with a four on the second-last ball of the game.
Following the game, GT's star pacer Mohammed Shami was spotted laughing with Punjab Kings owner Preity Zinta. Since Shami's stint with Punjab in the IPL, the two have developed a strong bond. The pacer was with the PBKS team between 2019 and 2021. He was released from the team ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction, and Gujarat signed him as a draft player.
In the meantime, fans on Twitter took this opportunity to troll the two. Shami was made fun of for spending time with his ex-owner as a photo of the two went viral on the internet. "Ex-PBKSian with Maalkin," wrote a fan.
Shubman Gill shines in the chase for Gujarat Titans
As for the game, Shubman Gill scored his fifth half-century against Punjab Kings since joining the IPL, propelling Gujarat Titans to a six-wicket victory. The reigning champions were on track for a straightforward chase, owing to Gill's calm 67 off 49 balls, laced with seven fours and a six, after pacer, Mohit Sharma made a great comeback to the competition with 2-18 and led Gujarat's disciplined bowling performance in restricting Punjab to 153/8.
Gill survived a run-out before Sam Curran uprooted his off-stump on the following ball. David Miller completed the second run with a frantic dive after Curran bowled two back-to-back yorkers. With four runs needed off the final two balls, Tewatia completed the chase by darting across and scooping a full ball from Curran over short fine leg for four to seal Gujarat's triumph with a ball to spare.
