ODI World Cup 2023

Cricket’s governing body and the Indian Cricket Board announced the schedule of the highly anticipate ODI World Cup 2023 which is to be played in India. 10 teams will be participating in the tournament later this year in the month of October and November. The tournament will kick off with the inaugural match between the defending champions England and the 2019 World Cup runners-up New Zealand.

A few major cities of India will be hosting this 13th edition of the ODI World Cup. Whereas some of the renowned grounds have been omitted from the list of host cities. The list also included the iconic PCA IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali of Punjab. It’s the same ground where India and Pakistan played the semi-final of the ODI World Cup 2011.

Meanwhile, the sports minister of the state of Punjab has come up with a hard stance on the Indian Cricket Board. He also accused the Board of mixing politics in cricket as Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium has it has got all the important matches including the Inaugural match, the India vs Pakistan fixture, and the final of the tournament.

"Narendra Modi Stadium is hosting the opening game, the Final, and also India and Pakistan. The neighbouring Dharamsala hosting five games, but Punjab has not even got one. That makes it clear that politics is being played,” said Punjab Sports Minister to PTI.

Subsequently, this statement from the Punjab government’s minister drew a lot of opinions from Indian cricket fans on social media. Fans took to the micro-blogging site Twitter and came up with divided reactions and responses to the scheduling of the ODI World Cup 2023 by the Indian Cricket Board.

Here’s how fans reacted:

Notably, India is hosting the ODI World Cup after 12 years but now, it will be hosting the tournament entirely in comparison to the shared venues of ODI World Cup 2011 with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
