In New Zealand, Patel had started as a medium-pacer. But he soon shifted to left-arm spin and mastered it. He is considered one of the best left-arm spinner of New Zealand.

Ajaz Patel got his chance to make his international debut after almost 10 years of grinding in domestic cricket. However, since his election, he has performed impressively. The World Test Championship Final will start on 18th June. New Zealand and England would play a 2 test series against each other before the championship. The Test series would start from 2nd June.
