Ajit Agarkar, the former India cricketer, is among the top applicants for the BCCI's selection committee. The selection panel is all set to stimulate its profile with some of the well-known Indian cricketers. Chetan Sharma, Maninder Singh, and Shiv Sunder Das are the potential candidates for the post. Ajit Agarkar is among the ex-cricketers who have applied for positions for the men's senior National Team.

The former left-arm spinner, Maninder Singh has applied from North Zone. He has played a total of 94 games -- 59 ODIs and 35 Tests. Ajit previously worked as the Chief Selector for Mumbai. He is also likely to be one of the preferences for the post.

The BCCI had presently disclosed the openings after terms of former selectors Jatin Paranjape, Devang Gandhi and Sarandeep Singh came to an end in September. According to the BCCI Protocols, the cricketer with the most number of Test caps will become the chairman of the committee.

If Ajit Agarkar is appointed, he could replace Sunil Joshi. Joshi is the current chairman of the selection committee, by his 26 Test caps for India. Other former players like Maninder Singh, Chetan Sharma, Shiv Sundar Das, and Abey Kuruvilla have also applied for the post.

Agarkar previously worked as the chief selector of the Mumbai state team

Ajit Agarkar is undoubtedly one of the spearheads for the job. He previously acted as the chief selector of the Mumbai state team. The former fast bowler having played in all three formats of the game for India has sufficient experience for the post.

The requirements put down by the BCCI state that the applicants must have played at least seven Tests and 30 first-class matches, or ten ODIs and 20 first-class matches. The applicants applying should also have retired a minimum of five years before as the age limit for the candidates is 60.

The BCCI will shortlist the candidates. The selected ones will be called in for interviews and further evaluation. It remains in a dilemma if the BCCI will pick a new Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) to name three selectors or will the Madan Lal-headed CAC continue.

The selected committee will play a crucial role in choosing the India squad for at least three major ICC tournaments. It includes the T20 World Cups in India and Australia, as well as the limited over World Cup in 2023. The selectors will also involve picking squads for the national team's bilateral assignments, India A matches, Deodhar Trophy, Challenger Trophy, and Duleep Trophy.
