Former England skipper Eoin Morgan officially announced his retirement from international cricket on June 28. He led the team from 2015 to 2022. Notably. Earlier, Morgan was the vice-captain of the team under Alastair Cook. In early 2015 when Cook was dropped from the ODI leading into the World Cup, the former Ireland player took over. The Three Lions had a horrendous tournament losing four games out of four and didn't qualify for the quarterfinal.

After this, the England and Wales Cricket Board decided that the team will play white-ball formats differently. The results started showing and they became one of the most feared teams in limited-overs cricket. However, they couldn't win the 2016 20-20 World Cup and 2017 Champions Trophy. The team then went on to create history after winning the 50-over World Cup for the first time in 2019. They had played the final in 1979, 1987, and 1992 but had no success.

Talking about the left-hander's captaincy record in ODIs and T20Is, he was one of the most successful. In fact, he is the joint-most successful skipper in the shortest version of the game. Just like MS Dhoni, the 35-year-old had led the team in 72 games, the team won 42 and lost 27. Under Dhoni, India won 41 games and lost 28. Talking about the Dublin-born player's ODI captaincy record, he has led the team in 121 games out of which they won 76 and lost 40.

Meanwhile, during the pre-game show before the second T20I between Ireland and India, the English commentator Alan Wilkins made a sensational revelation. He said that Cricket Ireland is looking to rope in Morgan in a coaching capacity. For the unversed, the retired cricketer played for Ireland from 2007 to 2009. He was part of the Irish team which beat Pakistan in the 50-over World Cup in 2007.

In 2010, Eoin played for the 2010 20-20 World Cup winners, England. Now, he will join the Sky Sports Cricket commentary team for the limted-overs series between England and India next month. The teams will play three T20Is and ODIs each.
