After treating the fans with two edge-of-the-seat thrillers in the ODI series, India and Bangladesh locked horns in the first Test of the two-match series on Wednesday. Indian captain KL Rahul won the toss and elected to bat first. The opening duo of captain Rahul and Shubman Gill gave a decent start to their side adding 41 runs for the first wicket. Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam gave Bangladesh their first breakthrough as he dismissed Gill on 20.

Rahul also followed him quickly and chopped a delivery by Khaled Ahmed back onto his stumps as India lost their second wicket on the score of 45. Rahul’s wicket brought Virat Kohli onto the crease and the fans expected the star batter to carry his good form in Tests as well. However, much to their disappointment, the former Indian captain was trapped in front of the stumps by the left-arm spinner Islam.

Kohli tried to work a good length delivery on the backfoot on the on side and was trying to play with the angle. However, the ball straightened and crashed onto his pads. After being given out on the field, he tried his luck by reviewing to the third umpire but didn’t get a desirable result with three reds on ball tracking showing him the way to the pavilion. Kohli departed for just 1 off 5 balls as his string of low scores in the longest format.

Virat Kohli averages 26.45 since his last Test hundred

Kohli’s last Test hundred came against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens, Kolkata in 2019. Since then, the Delhi-born batter has failed to score big and managed to score just 873 runs in 33 innings at an average of 26.45 with 6 half-centuries to his name.

His dismal form with the bat over the past three years saw him crash out of the top 10 Test batters’ rankings as well. He’s currently ranked at 11th position with 714 rating points.

India finished the first session with the score of 85/3 with Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant at the crease. Meanwhile, Twitter was abuzz with several reactions on another failure by Virat Kohli. Here are some of the Tweets:
