Former India opening batsman Gautam Gambhir stated that Andre Russell must be regretting his untimely dismissal against CSK. The West Indies all-rounder scored a quick-fire half-century off 21 deliveries. KKR was struggling 31 for 5 at one stage. The duo of Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik formed a crucial partnership and helped KKR to get back into the competition. Former KKR skipper reckoned that Russell, after returning to the pavilion, must be regretting his shot selection. The veteran believes that had the Jamaican batsman carried on a little longer on the crease, he could have won the match for KKR and also scored a hundred.

Andre Russell troubled the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bowlers to every corner of the stadium. In a brilliant knock that lasted 22 balls, Russell pounded his way to 54. His innings comprised of 3 boundaries and 6 sixes. It looked like the Jamaican cricketer would continue to hammer the Chennai outfit and take KKR to an improbable victory. However, an exceptional delivery from Sam Curran ended Andre Russell's stay in the crease. England pacer Sam Curran bowled a delivery on Russell's legs, and the KKR all-rounder thought that the ball would not hit the stumps. But it was the other way around; the ball thudded onto Russell's leg stump. Lower-order batsman Pat Cummins then fought a lone battle with his unbeaten 34-ball 66 at a strike rate of 194.12. This brilliant knock included four boundaries and six maximums. However, the all-rounder did not receive any support from the other end. Kolkata Knight Riders were eventually bundled out for 202 in the final over.

Kolkata Knight Riders lost the match by 18 runs

Batting first, CSK managed to put up a mammoth total of 220 runs in Wankhede. In response, Kolkata tried being overly aggressive in the powerplay overs and was reduced to 31-5 at one point. Andre Russell, Dinesh Karthik, and Pat Cummins all played crucial roles to boost KKR's chances of recording an improbable win. However, the tail-enders lost their wickets to runouts, and Pat Cummins was left wrecked at 66*. The Kolkata-based franchise lost the match by 18 runs. Eoin Morgan and the team are now sixth in the IPL 2021 points table. The side needs to win at least six or seven of their next 10 games to have a chance at finishing in the playoff spots. Kolkata Knight Riders will next play Rajasthan Royals on April 24th.
