West Indies vs India

Team India, under the captaincy of stand-in skipper Hardik Pandya, lost the fifth and last T20I of the five-match series against West Indies. The hosts won the last match by 8 wickets to seal the series by 3-2 and end up their series-win drought against the Men in Blue.

The visiting skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to bat first, although his decision backfired and India kept losing their wickets at regular intervals in the first innings. The star opening pair of young batters, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill failed to do what they did in the fourth T20I against the Caribbean side. India lost both the openers only on a total score of 17 runs.

India somehow managed to reach a total of 165 runs for the loss of 9 wickets courtesy of Suryakumar Yadav’s crucial knock of 61 runs off 45 balls with 4 boundaries and 3 sixes. Other than him, it was only the young Southpaw Tilak Varma, who crossed the mark of 20+ runs. He scored 27 runs off 18 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes.

Romario Shepherd impressed everyone with his brilliant bowling as he scalped 4 wickets for West Indies, conceding 31 runs in his quota of four overs. Akeal Hosein and Jason Holder also picked two wickets each, alongside one claimed by Roston Chase.

Brandon King and Nicholas Pooran pushed India out of contention in the match

While chasing the target, Rovman Powell’s men comfortably crossed the line in 18 overs, scoring 171 runs for the loss of only 2 wickets and won the match by a mammoth margin of 8 wickets. Star opener Brandon King smashed a blistering knock of 85 runs off just 55 balls with 5 fours and 6 sixes. Apart from him, the star wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran also played a vital knock of 47 runs with a boundary and 4 sixes. They both stitched the match-winning partnership of 107 runs for the second wicket to help West Indies achieve the easy win.

Eventually, the Caribbean side clinched the victory in the five-match series by 3-2; Brandon King won the ‘Player of the Match for his match-defining 85-run knock.

The cricket fans were also dejected after India's series loss. They expressed their disappointment and disbelief over the game plan of the Indian team management and their strategies throughout the entire series against the West Indies.
