Australia fast bowler Josh Hazlewood is likely to miss out on the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne . The pacer was ruled out of the second Test in Adelaide after sustaining a side strain in the warm-ups. He was replaced by Jhye Richardson in the team. Later, Pat Cummins was also ruled out of the game after he was identified as a close contract to a COVID-19 patient.
Ahead of the team's third Test, which starts on December 26, the Australia team, including Pat Cummins participated in a strenuous training session. However, Hazlewood didn't bowl a single ball which is a big hint that the pacer is yet to regain peak fitness.
While an official confirmation from Cricket Australia (CA) is yet to come, given that the third Test starts in just two days, Hazlewood's participation is highly unlikely. Meanwhile, Pat Cummins is all probabilities will be back leading the team. He is expected to replace Michael Neser in the team.
There were a few doubts about the fitness of Cameron Green. Steve Smith didn't use Green on the final day of the Adelaide Test. However, the all-rounder revealed he is fine and will be available for selection in Melbourne.
“I didn’t have any conversations with ‘Smudge’. I was completely fine, ready to go, it’s just we were in a really good position,” Green said.
“They just thought we could get through the game without bowling me and keep me a bit more fresh for this game. The boys bowled beautifully, credit to them.”
Australia have been very dominating in the series. They have comprehensively won both the games in Brisbane and Adelaide. A win or even a draw in Melbourne will ensure that the Ashes stay with them.
