After a lot of uncertainty, the Asia Cup 2022 is finally going to be held in the UAE. The news that was earlier confirmed by Indian Cricket Board President Sourav Ganguly has been solidified with the announcement of the Asia Cup Schedule.

The first match of the tournament will see recently-rebuked-hosts Sri Lanka go against Afghanistan. India on the other hand will play its first match on August 28th with their arch-rivals Pakistan.

There will be a total of six teams namely India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and one from UAE, Kuwait, Singapore and Hong Kong. The latter four will play against each other in a qualifier round, the winner will then join the other five.

Out of the six only four teams will qualify for the Super Four the first match for which will be held on 3rd September in Sharjah. The first and second-ranked teams from Group Four will play the final on 11th September in Dubai.

India have been the most dominant side in the history of the tournament with seven wins so far, namely in 1984, 1988, 1990/91, 1995, 2010, 2016 and 2018. Sri Lanka meanwhile have won the Asia Cup on five occasions in 1986, 1997, 2004, 2008 and 2014.

Pakistan have only won the tournament on two occasions in 2002 and 2012. India will finally have the chance to avenge the 10-wicket loss in the 20-20 World Cup.

The Asia Cup was previously scheduled to be played in Sri Lanka but had to be moved to UAE as Sri Lanka are going through financial turmoil at the moment.

Indian Cricket Board’s Apex Council met in Mumbai last month to discuss the hosts and came out with UAE as the perfect place. Sourav Ganguly came out of the meeting and said, “Asia Cup will be in UAE, as it is the only place where there won’t be rains.” Star Sports has bought the rights for the Asia Cup and have already released a promo video for the same.
