Former Australian legendary skipper Allan Border has come up with his predicted playing XI ahead of the second of the three-match Test series against India. Notably, the visitors will play the second Test against India at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi from tomorrow, 17th of February. The match would be very crucial for Pat Cummins’ men as they will be eyeing to level the series by 1-1 after losing the first Test at Nagpur.
Coming back to former skipper Border’s predicted playing XI of Australia ahead of the Delhi fixture; he has dropped the last match’s bowling star for visitors, Todd Murphy. Apart from that, he has also made an inclusion in the squad.
“You’ve got to go with (Nathan) Lyon, he’s built up enough brownie points over the years to be the first picked. Well done to young (Todd) Murphy, it’s going to be a tough decision to leave him out, I know the wicket is going to turn but I just reckon the formula for us to be successful (is) three quickies and one spinner,” said Border to SEN.
Later on, the 67-year-old also came up with a big statement on the senior Australian southpaw David Warner and his presence in Australia later in the series.
“We could (see Warner dropped this series). I don’t like to say it because he’s been so good to us. We just need to see something more from him at the top of the order,” he added later.
Subsequently, the former World Champion batter also included Travis Head in the playing XI of Australia for the second of the four-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India.
“He (Travis Head) deserved the opportunity to play in that First Test match no doubt it about, I think they got that selection really wrong,” added Warner while speaking on Travis Head.
Here’s a look at predicted Australia playing XI by Allan Border:
David Warner, Usman Khawaja, Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Peter Handscomb, Cameron Green (if fit), Alex Carey, Pat Cummins, Nathan Lyon, and Josh Hazlewood (if fit).
