There have been many instances of mishaps towards foreign players in Pakistan which has not gone well for them in the past. Once again security concerns are raised as Ashton Agar's wife has received threats for her husband during Australia's tour to Pakistan.
The Australian cricket team has reached Pakistan for a historic series. They are the first Australian team to travel to Pakistan in 24 years. They last played a game there in 1998. The series consists of three Test matches, three ODI matches, and a one-off T20 match.
The Sydney Morning Herald released a report saying Madeline, Ashton Agar's wife, received messages on her Instagram threatening her husband's life. The messages were immediately reported to the CA and the PCB. As it turns out, the threat was not credible. The report further said that the fake account could have been from India.
"The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age can reveal that a message was sent to Agar’s partner, Madeleine, on social media, which was immediately reported to CA and the PCB. A team spokesperson confirmed Agar was the subject of the death threat, but team security has investigated and do not believe it is a credible threat. There is a suggestion it is from a fake Instagram account, potentially from India," the report said.
The messages were not quoted in the report but they have been leaked online. A user with the id "jyot.isharma391" sent these messages to Madeline. The warning said that Ashton Agar will not return alive if he comes to play for the matches against Pakistan. The user also hailed the Taliban.
