The Pat Cummins-led Australian side has regained the top spot in ICC Test rankings after an excellent win over the touring England team. India, on the flip side, has dropped down to the third position at the end of the Test series vs South Africa.

The Aussies clinched a dominating victory in the recently concluded Ashes series, with a scoreline of 4-0. They completely outplayed their opposition in every department, and almost everyone in the team had a contribution in winning the home series.

Travis Head, Scott Bolland, their new find in the series and Usman Khawaja were the standout performers. Head went on to win the Player of the Series for his two centuries and 357 runs in 6 innings.

Australia had not played a lot of red-ball cricket in recent times, and they were not up to their standard in recent times either. This game-changing series helped them get back at the top.

Some other notable shifts in the rankings include India dropping to 3rd place and Pakistan moving down one spot to 7th position. New Zealand, however, has managed to hold on to the 2nd spot after a series draw against Bangladesh.

India lost the series against South Africa by 2-1, expected to go in their favor. Their batters let them down by having a little impact throughout the series. They would have missed Rohit Sharma at the top of the order, who was their best batter in England last year

Australia will play white-ball cricket for a while now at home and will only tour Pakistan for a Test series in early March this year. India is currently playing an ODI series against South Africa and is scheduled to play a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka at home on the 25th of February.
