The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have confirmed that Australia will tour Bangladesh for a five-match T20I series in August. Both Bangladesh and Australia are currently playing away series against Zimbabwe and West Indies respectively and will land in Dhaka on June 29. The visitors will undergo a three-day quarantine before starting their training at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, the venue for the T20I series.

“The BCB and Cricket Australia have worked tirelessly together for confirming the itinerary,” BCB’s chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury said. “Naturally this was a challenge due to the Covid-19 pandemic as ensuring health safety and security is a priority prerequisite for holding any cricket series in these times. I am pleased to say that a comprehensive bio-security plan is in place and will be implemented during the tour for the protection of players and staff of the two teams and the match officials.”

Upon serving the quarantine, both teams will play a warm-up game on August 1st before the series gets underway on August 3. The remaining four T20Is will be played on 4, 6, 7 and 9. This will be the first occasion when the two teams will play a bilateral T20I series.

Considering that the T20 World Cup will be played in similar conditions, this will be a great opportunity for Australia to prepare themselves for the showpiece event in UAE. Australia have won all the four T20Is they have played against Bangladesh but the hosts are a formidable unit in their home conditions thus the series should be an evenly fought affair. Australia, who were thrashed 4-1 by West Indies in their previous series, would be keen to get some favourable results on the tour.
